“Replaced original 1920’s steel windows”

Retaining Aesthetics

The refurbished Kinnaird House building provides approximately 97,500ft2 of brand new, high quality office and restaurant accommodation within the original retained façade.

Trehearne Architects had selected Novastruct’s GT 70 S windows because of their slim sightlines, which enable them to closely resemble the characteristically elegant lines of traditional steel windows.

Describing how they had used the aluminium solution to mimic the original fenestration, Trehearne’s said that they had concealed most of the aluminium frame behind the masonry reveal. The rest of the casement was made up of ‘plant on’ extrusions, specially designed to match the original windows as closely as possible.

The GT 70 S window is an ideal solution for architects and specifiers wishing to retain the aesthetics of traditional steel windows, whilst also benefiting from aluminium’s unique qualities, such as superior thermal insulation, design flexibility and low maintenance requirements.

A Rich Heritage

Designed by Arthur Blomfield FRIBA and acquired by Haslemere NV in 1999, Kinnaird House is still owned in conjunction with The Crown Estate.

The imposing building functioned as a bank from the completion of its construction in 1923, when it was leased to Messrs Barclay & Co, up to the present day.

During construction, which began in 1916, the Ministry of Munitions commandeered the building in 1918 for its work during the First World War.
